Iran: Tehran Warns Renewed War Will Benefit “No One” Following US Strikes

The possibility of renewed military confrontation between Washington and Tehran has intensified after reports of limited US strikes against Iran’s Qeshm Island, even as Qatar continues its diplomatic efforts to secure an agreement between the two countries.

The reported attacks, which took place on Monday, November 2, targeted an island located in the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. Several American media outlets, including The Wall Street Journal, reported the operation, citing US officials familiar with the developments.

Iranian state media had previously reported several explosions on Qeshm Island, raising concerns about a potential expansion of military operations in the region.

According to American officials cited in media reports, the strikes were limited in scope and described as defensive actions. They were reportedly intended to neutralize threats against US military assets rather than signal the beginning of a large-scale offensive against Iran.

The reported operation comes amid heightened regional tensions and growing uncertainty surrounding negotiations aimed at ending the conflict.

Qatar Maintains Hope for a Diplomatic Breakthrough

Despite the latest military developments, Qatar has reiterated its commitment to mediation between Washington and Tehran, expressing optimism that an agreement remains achievable.

Speaking in Doha on Tuesday, November 3, Majed Al Ansari, spokesperson for Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, confirmed that both sides were continuing to examine proposals presented through diplomatic channels.

He explained that Qatar was facilitating the exchange of proposals between the two governments in real time, with the objective of narrowing differences and establishing the conditions for a broader political settlement.

Doha is currently working towards an interim agreement that could prevent another major escalation and create an opportunity for further negotiations.

Al Ansari also emphasized that the diplomatic process remained active, although he warned that additional military escalation could undermine ongoing efforts.

Intensive Contacts Between Tehran and Washington

Diplomatic activity has intensified over recent days, with Qatar playing a central role in efforts to maintain communication between the two adversaries.

Qatari negotiators recently returned to Doha following a meeting in Tehran that lasted more than three hours. The discussions focused on proposals intended to bring the positions of Washington and Tehran closer together.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has also described the negotiations as particularly intensive, confirming that indirect contacts with the United States were continuing through regional mediators.

However, significant disagreements remain. Tehran has made clear that any progress towards reopening the Strait of Hormuz must take into account its demands, including a regional ceasefire, the release of frozen Iranian assets, the lifting of sanctions targeting its oil sector and an end to the American naval blockade against Iranian ports.

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has meanwhile placed responsibility on Washington to prevent another escalation, arguing that the next steps depend largely on American decisions.

Strait of Hormuz Remains at the Centre of the Crisis

The strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz adds another dimension to the confrontation. This narrow maritime passage is one of the world's most important routes for international energy supplies, making its disruption a major concern for global markets.

Iran has proposed reopening the waterway under specific conditions, including arrangements negotiated with Oman regarding maritime transit.

The United States, meanwhile, maintains pressure on Iranian ports through its naval blockade, creating another major obstacle to a potential agreement.

The situation has already affected energy markets. Oil prices experienced a sharp decline earlier in the week amid expectations of diplomatic progress, before recovering some ground following reports of the latest strikes.

A Delicate Moment for Regional Stability

The latest developments highlight the fragile balance between military confrontation and diplomatic negotiations.

While Qatar remains hopeful that an interim agreement can be reached, the reported strikes demonstrate how quickly the situation could deteriorate.

With Washington and Tehran continuing to exchange proposals through intermediaries, the coming days could prove decisive in determining whether diplomatic efforts succeed in containing the crisis or whether the region faces another period of intensified military operations.

For Qatar, maintaining communication between the two sides remains essential to preventing a wider confrontation and preserving prospects for a negotiated settlement.
