Eid Al Adha: King Mohammed VI Grants Pardon to 1,484 Convicts

His Majesty King Mohammed VI Continues Tradition of Clemency During Religious Celebrations

In keeping with a cherished tradition, His Majesty King Mohammed VI of Morocco has granted a royal pardon to 1,484 convicts in honor of Eid Al Adha. This significant act of clemency underscores the monarch's commitment to compassion and mercy during one of the most sacred holidays in the Islamic calendar.

The Ministry of Justice issued a statement detailing the scope of the pardon, which affects a diverse group of individuals sentenced by various courts across the nation. Among the beneficiaries, 114 detainees have been granted a complete pardon on the remaining terms of their imprisonment or confinement.

Moreover, 1,094 detainees have seen their sentences reduced, offering them a renewed sense of hope and a chance for reintegration into society. Notably, one individual had their life sentence commuted to a fixed-term sentence, a rare and significant gesture.

The decree also extended total freedom to 69 individuals, either by pardoning their entire imprisonment sentence or the remainder of it. Additionally, six individuals received pardons on their imprisonment sentences while still retaining their fines.

Further reflecting the King’s benevolent gesture, 189 individuals were granted pardons on fine sentences, and nine were pardoned on both imprisonment and fine sentences. Another two individuals benefited from pardons on their fine sentences as well as the remaining terms of their imprisonment.

This magnanimous act coincides with Morocco's celebration of Eid al-Adha, a festival that resonates deeply within the Islamic world. The holiday, observed by many countries including Saudi Arabia, is marked by acts of charity, sacrifice, and community.

On the eve of Eid al-Adha, His Majesty King Mohammed VI extended his heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to the leaders of the global Muslim community. His messages were met with warm reciprocation, including a congratulatory message from Hussein Ibrahim Taha, the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the Secretary-General of the Arab League.

His Majesty King Mohammed VI’s gesture of pardon during Eid al-Adha not only highlights his adherence to Moroccan customs but also reflects a broader commitment to mercy and forgiveness, values that are deeply embedded in the spirit of the holiday.
