Discontent grows at Real Madrid as Xabi Alonso clashes with Vinicius Jr.

Tensions between Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso and Brazilian winger Vinicius Jr. have come under scrutiny following a goalless draw at Estadio de Vallecas last Sunday. Clips circulating on social media show moments of visible frustration between the pair, sparking debate about their relationship and its impact on the team.

One viral clip captures Alonso’s sideline reaction to Vinicius attempting to dribble through multiple defenders, ultimately losing possession. Spanish broadcaster Movistar+ caught the manager repeatedly shouting for the winger to pass the ball. In another instance, Vinicius was overheard criticizing Alonso’s decisions during the match, notably after a second-half substitution, saying, “It seems like we don’t want to win today.”

This is not the first public conflict between the two. Earlier this season, during El Clasico, Vinicius erupted in frustration after being substituted in the 72nd minute of Real Madrid’s 2-1 victory over Barcelona. Storming off the pitch, he reportedly shouted, “Always me. I’m leaving the team. I’d better leave.” While the incident was downplayed by Alonso in subsequent press conferences, tensions between the two remain unresolved.

Speculation over Vinicius Jr.'s future

Vinicius Jr., whose contract with Real Madrid runs until June 2027, is now rumored to be considering an exit as soon as the next summer transfer window. Sky Sports has reported that Real Madrid would entertain offers starting at €150 million, with Saudi Pro League clubs among the potential suitors. The strained relationship with Alonso, coupled with "total failure" in ongoing contract extension negotiations, has fueled speculation about the Brazilian’s departure.

Alonso's management under the spotlight

Despite leading La Liga by three points and maintaining a solid European campaign, Alonso’s tenure has faced criticism for his handling of high-profile players. Known for his discipline-first approach, the former Bayer Leverkusen coach has struggled to replicate the player-friendly style of his predecessor, Carlo Ancelotti. Reports suggest that senior figures in the locker room feel disrespected by Alonso’s rigid methods, creating a divide within the squad.

Alonso’s ability to navigate these challenges could define his early managerial career at Real Madrid. With tensions rising and the season still in its infancy, the Spanish manager faces the dual task of maintaining momentum on the pitch while resolving internal conflicts that threaten to derail the team’s cohesion.
