British tourist extorted in Marrakech, police take immediate action
Authorities in Marrakech acted swiftly after a video circulated on social media showing an alleged extortion attempt targeting a British tourist and his Filipino spouse in the city’s Medina.
The incident reportedly involved an individual demanding payment under threat, in exchange for an unauthorized tour guide service.
The Marrakech tourist police contacted the victims to confirm details, proceed with suspect identification, and provide updates on the ongoing judicial process. The suspect, previously known to law enforcement, was arrested and placed in custody.
The British tourist and his wife publicly expressed gratitude to the Moroccan authorities, highlighting the speed and professionalism of the police, who reached out to them at their hotel in the Amizmiz area.
This case underscores the Moroccan authorities’ commitment to protecting tourists and maintaining a safe environment in a city where tourism is a key economic pillar.
