BCIJ Arrests ISIS-Affiliated Suspect Plotting Serious Terror Projects in Morocco

In a significant counterterrorism operation, Morocco’s Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ) has arrested an ISIS-affiliated suspect in the rural community of Ourika, near Marrakech. The suspect, a 16-year-old male, was allegedly planning several serious terrorist projects targeting sensitive sites across Morocco.

The arrest, which took place on Monday, was the result of close coordination between the BCIJ and Morocco’s General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), along with foreign intelligence agencies. During the operation, authorities seized electronic devices, a plastic bottle containing a suspicious liquid, and a chemical powder. These substances are currently undergoing analysis as part of the ongoing investigation.

Preliminary findings indicate that the suspect had acquired expertise in making explosive devices, with the intent to execute his destructive plans. The BCIJ’s statement revealed that the suspect had established connections with ISIS operatives, aiming to eventually join the group’s branches in the Sahel region.

The suspect is now in custody, and further investigations are underway to uncover the full extent of his extremist activities and potential connections with other terrorist groups. This operation underscores Morocco’s commitment to addressing the growing threats posed by ISIS and other terrorist organizations.

Morocco has long advocated for a shared responsibility in tackling security threats in the Sahel region. The country’s proactive counterterrorism approach continues to play a crucial role in maintaining national and regional security.
