Apartment collapse in Paris leaves 20 injured, one in critical condition
An apartment floor collapsed onto the one below during a late-night gathering in central Paris, injuring 20 people, including one person in serious condition, emergency services said on Sunday.
The incident occurred shortly after midnight in a residential building on Rue Amelot, in the 11th arrondissement of the French capital. Around fifty people were reportedly inside the fifth-floor apartment when the structural failure took place, causing the floor to give way and crash into the lower level.
Paris firefighters confirmed that 19 victims sustained minor injuries, while one individual was seriously hurt and required urgent medical attention. The condition of several injured people was still being assessed to determine whether hospitalization was necessary.
According to initial findings by emergency responders, the collapse was structural in nature and not linked to a gas leak or explosion. As a precaution, authorities secured the area and launched a technical inspection of the building to evaluate its stability and prevent further risks.
A major emergency response was deployed, with approximately 145 firefighters, dozens of vehicles and multiple ambulances mobilized at the scene. An investigation has been opened to determine the exact causes of the collapse.
