Al Ahly Threatens FIFA Intervention in Mohamed Chibi Assault Case
Amidst ongoing controversy surrounding the assault on Moroccan player Mohamed Chibi, Al Ahly Football Club has issued a letter to the Egyptian Football Federation, urging a prompt and conclusive resolution to the matter before recourse to FIFA intervention.
As per the club's official statement, the letter from Al Ahly highlights concerns over alleged breaches of Egyptian and international football regulations by Mohamed Chibi, who pursued legal action through civil courts subsequent to an altercation with Al Ahly player Hussein El Shahat.
Al Ahly asserts that it had previously made repeated appeals to the Egyptian Football Federation for enforcement of regulations. With no satisfactory response forthcoming, the club now threatens to escalate the issue to relevant international bodies, contending that Chibi's recourse to civil courts constitutes a violation of both local and international football statutes.
The club's statement underscores prior attempts to engage the Football Federation, noting interactions dating back to July 12, 2023. Subsequent correspondence from the Federation on April 1, 2024, acknowledged Chibi's infringement of Egyptian Football Federation and FIFA statutes.
Furthermore, Al Ahly emphasizes the assurance from the Egyptian Football Federation that disputes involving players fall within the purview of disciplinary committees rather than judicial proceedings.
In its formal communication, Al Ahly discloses that the Egyptian Federation referred Chibi to the disciplinary committee for regulatory breaches but was met with non-compliance as Chibi failed to appear within the stipulated timeframe.
While the Egyptian Pro League penalized Hussein El Shahat with a two-match suspension and a 20,000 Egyptian pounds fine, Moroccan supporters contend that these sanctions are inadequate considering the severity of the incident. They advocate for intervention from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF).
Meanwhile, Al Ahly's management intends to lodge an official complaint with the Egyptian Football Federation's disciplinary committee and the Professional Clubs League administration against their player. This action is supported by video evidence of the altercation.
