Aerospace Ascension: Shimco's Moroccan Odyssey Signals Industry's Soaring Potential

In a resounding affirmation of Morocco's burgeoning aerospace prowess, Canadian aerospace firm Shimco celebrated its forthcoming expansion into the North African nation's integrated industrial platform of Midparc near Casablanca. The event, a symbolic milestone in Shimco's global growth trajectory, witnessed a convergence of key figures, each underscoring the strategic significance of the company's foray into Morocco's rapidly ascending aviation sector.

Amidst the revelry, Shimco CEO Peter Voss took center stage, unequivocally proclaiming Morocco as the company's "best choice" for expansion. With a candid admission that opportunities abounded in other countries, Voss emphatically cited Morocco's cost-effectiveness and proximity to pivotal markets as the decisive factors tilting the scales in its favor.

"We had other opportunities in other countries, but Morocco was our best choice by far," Voss asserted, his words resonating with profound conviction in the nation's aerospace potential.

Voss's statement reaffirmed the company's unwavering commitment to supplying high-quality aerospace parts from its Moroccan facility to customers worldwide. The CEO revealed that Shimco had already secured a contract, with production slated to commence by January 2025. Initially, the focus will be on parts for Airbus Helicopter and Airbus Atlantic, with aspirations to support other industry titans such as Boeing, Safran, Pratt & Whitney, and Collins.

Echoing Voss's sentiments, Canadian Ambassador to Morocco Isabelle Valois extended a warm welcome to Shimco, underscoring the profound impact of the company's decision to establish operations in the North African nation. "Your presence in Morocco will certainly help build a stronger relationship with Morocco," Valois affirmed, adding that Shimco's choice sent a "message of confidence from the Canadian industry towards Morocco."

Valois's praise for Morocco's "maturity" and the growth of its aerospace industry and economy resonated deeply, as she highlighted the country's appeal to several other Canadian companies recognizing its potential and advantages. Describing Morocco as a "rapidly growing country," the ambassador expressed her conviction in its allure for Canadian enterprises.

Hamid Benbrahim El Andaloussi, President of Midparc, joined the chorus of commendation, celebrating Shimco's establishment in Morocco and lauding the company's quality and professionalism. He underscored Morocco's geographical position and competitiveness in the aerospace sector, asserting, "We are creating a real aerospace bridge between the two countries, for our mutual benefit. This proves that Peter has understood that Morocco has now become an essential platform."

El Andaloussi's remarks shed light on the remarkable evolution of Morocco's aerospace industry, with nearly 145 companies operating in the country over the past 25 years. He highlighted the industry's second phase, focused on quality, skill development, and greater inclusion of Moroccan women, underscoring the nation's commitment to continuous advancement.

Shimco's recent certification from Boeing to manufacture laminated metal and composite specifications, labeled BMS7-335, further bolsters the company's reputation and operational scope in the aerospace industry. The certification, achieved after concerted efforts since 2021, allows Shimco to supply laminated materials and fabricated parts to Boeing and its global supply chain, marking a significant milestone for the company's facilities in both Canada and Morocco.

With plans to construct a 1,300-square-meter production plant and ambitious goals to double its capacity within three years and triple it within seven, Shimco's Moroccan venture stands as a testament to the nation's allure for high-tech industries and its commitment to fostering international partnerships in the aerospace realm.

As the curtain rises on this new chapter in Shimco's global odyssey, Morocco's aerospace ascension continues to soar, propelled by the unwavering confidence of industry leaders and the nation's steadfast dedication to excellence.
