Lammy Reaffirms Before the British Parliament the United Kingdom's Support for the Autonomy Plan
British Foreign Secretary David Lammy reiterated the United Kingdom’s support for Morocco’s autonomy proposal regarding Moroccan Sahara during a statement delivered Tuesday before the House of Commons. Lammy emphasized that the Moroccan autonomy plan remains the “most credible, viable, and pragmatic” foundation for resolving the long-standing dispute.
Reflecting on his recent visit to Morocco, Lammy underscored London’s formal endorsement of the autonomy initiative, describing it as a realistic path forward. He also noted that as the Moroccan Sahara issue nears its 50th anniversary, a renewed sense of international commitment presents a timely opportunity for progress.
Lammy highlighted the strategic importance of UK-Morocco relations, calling the two nations long-standing partners who actively collaborate on shared priorities. He also confirmed efforts to further strengthen this partnership in key areas such as security, prosperity, and sustainable development.
In his remarks, the Foreign Secretary referenced agreements signed during his trip to Rabat, covering a broad range of sectors. He added that both countries have also committed to enhancing cooperation in the fields of migration, counterterrorism, water resource management, and climate change.
