Avalanche claims life of 40-years-old man in the French Pyrenees
A 40-years-old man tragically lost his life in an avalanche on Saturday in Val-de-Sos, located in the Ariège region of the French Pyrenees, according to sources close to the case.
The avalanche occurred near Pic d’Endron, which rises to 2,472 meters, while the avalanche risk was reported at level 3 out of 5 above 2,000 meters. Witnesses stated that the incident appeared to have been triggered by a solitary skier descending the mountain.
Rescue teams from the Mountain Gendarmerie Unit (PGHM) discovered the victim’s body around 12:30 p.m. Authorities remind the public to exercise caution and follow safety guidelines when venturing into mountainous areas, especially during periods of heightened avalanche risk.
