His Majesty King Mohammed VI  initiated a comprehensive overhaul of the Family Code (Moudawana) during a working session at the Royal Palace in Casablanca. This reform, marking the 20th anniversary of the current code, aims to align family law with Morocco's evolving social landscape while preserving core cultural values.

The reform process involved an extensive consultation phase, resulting in over 100 proposed amendments. These proposals underwent careful review by the Superior Council of Ulema to ensure compatibility with Islamic law principles and constructive religious interpretation.

Justice Minister Abdellatif Ouahbi presented the committee's findings, highlighting extensive public consultations. The Minister of Islamic Affairs, Ahmed Toufiq, outlined the Superior Council's conclusions, which balanced traditional values with contemporary needs through the principle of public interest (Maslaha).

HM King Mohammed VI emphasized three foundational principles for the reforms:
- Ensuring justice among family members
- Preserving family unity as society's cornerstone
- Upholding Morocco's universal values and international commitments

To strengthen implementation, the reform package includes:
- Enhanced family court systems
- Updated regulatory frameworks aligned with constitutional provisions
- Public awareness campaigns about new rights and responsibilities

The government, led by Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch, will engage in public dialogue before presenting the reforms to Parliament. This initiative represents Morocco's commitment to progressive social development while maintaining cultural authenticity.
