Major Drug Smuggling Operation Foiled in Beni Mellal, 4 Metric Tons of Cannabis Seized
A significant international drug trafficking operation was disrupted early Wednesday morning in Beni Mellal, Morocco. The judicial police successfully seized nearly 4 metric tons of cannabis resin, known locally as "chira," in a coordinated operation with the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST).
The bust took place at a farm in a remote area near Souk Sebt Ouled Nemma. Authorities arrested a 35-year-old suspect found at the scene and discovered the large drug cache hidden in a warehouse on the property. Along with the drugs, police confiscated two cargo transport vehicles and a large sum of money, believed to be proceeds from the illegal drug trade.
The arrested individual is now in custody as part of a judicial investigation, managed by the relevant prosecutor’s office. Authorities have expanded their efforts, continuing to search for additional members of the trafficking network. Investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend all those involved in the operation.
