9th Arab World Educational Short Film Festival Kicks Off in Casablanca
The 9th Arab World Educational Short Film Festival (FMACME) commenced on Saturday at the Abdellah El Sanhaji El Fida Cultural Complex in Casablanca, under the theme “Digitalization and Cinema: Pedagogical Tools for a New Generation.” The festival aims to provide a unique platform for young filmmakers while promoting discussions on crucial topics related to education, childhood, and youth.
Festival Director Abbari Abdellah emphasized that the event serves as a space to foster citizenship and a sense of belonging. It is also designed to support the Moroccan film community by offering an interactive cultural environment and training opportunities.
This year’s program features activities tailored to educators, professionals, and other societal stakeholders. The opening ceremony showcased 10 short films competing for awards and introduced the esteemed jury panel, which includes Ammar Al-Ibrahim, Fatima Aglaz, and Fahd Ghaidi.
The festival also paid tribute to several distinguished figures in the cultural and film industries, including writer and journalist Ahmed Sijlmassi, actor Nabil Atif, and Omani artist Taleb Ben Mohamed Al-Belouchi.
In addition to the screenings, the festival offers creative workshops and seminars, bringing together professionals and enthusiasts to collaborate on producing educational short films that inspire the local community.
Organized by the Manar El Hank Arts Association in collaboration with the Moroccan Cinematographic Center (CCM), the Casablanca City Council, and the Hassan II Mosque Foundation, the festival will continue until December 17. The opening ceremony was attended by Khalid Salim Bamkhalif, Oman’s ambassador to Morocco, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication, and other prominent figures from the film industry and civil society.
