Germany and Morocco forge stronger agricultural collaboration at Berlin’s Green Week

Germany and Morocco have taken significant steps to deepen their agricultural partnership during Berlin’s Green Week, a premier international event focused on food security, agriculture, and horticulture. The two nations signed a declaration to establish a joint working group aimed at addressing shared challenges and enhancing cooperation in the agricultural sector.

Germany’s Federal Minister for Food and Agriculture, Cem Özdemir, emphasized Morocco’s importance as a key partner for both Germany and the European Union. Following a meeting with Morocco’s Minister of Agriculture, Ahmed El Bouari, Özdemir praised the “strong and balanced” relationship between the two countries, highlighting the high level of collaboration between their agricultural ministries. “We want to advance together, building on the solid foundation of our partnership,” Özdemir stated.

The newly formed working group will focus on critical areas such as climate change adaptation, water management, and support for farmers. Both ministers also discussed the ongoing exchange of agricultural knowledge, which they believe will further strengthen their collaborative efforts toward a sustainable future.

Morocco’s participation in Green Week has been particularly noteworthy, with the country showcasing its rich agricultural heritage and cultural diversity. The Moroccan pavilion, inaugurated by El Bouari and Özdemir, features 21 exhibitors from 39 cooperatives representing all 12 regions of Morocco. Visitors can explore a variety of sustainable products, including argan oil, olive oil, saffron, dates, and medicinal and aromatic plants. This display underscores Morocco’s commitment to meeting international standards for quality and sustainability.

Green Week, which attracts over 1,500 exhibitors from 60 countries and nearly 400,000 visitors, serves as a vital platform for global dialogue on pressing agricultural and environmental issues. Morocco’s active involvement in the event highlights its dedication to fostering international partnerships and promoting sustainable agricultural practices.

The strengthened ties between Germany and Morocco reflect a shared vision for addressing global challenges and advancing agricultural innovation. As both nations look to the future, their collaboration is poised to yield significant benefits for their agricultural sectors and beyond.
