Nadia Annouz Elected with Overwhelming Support

In a significant development, Morocco has been elected to the African Union Advisory Board on Corruption (AUABC) during the 45th Ordinary Session of the AU Executive Council, which took place in Accra, Ghana.

Nadia Annouz, currently the vice-president of Morocco's National Authority for Integrity, Prevention, and the Fight against Corruption, will represent the country on this esteemed board for a six-year term. Annouz’s election is a notable achievement, having secured an overwhelming majority of 35 votes, underscoring Morocco’s recognized expertise and dedication to combating corruption on both national and continental fronts.

Morocco’s Delegation at the Forefront

The Moroccan delegation at the session was led by Nasser Bourita, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates. Accompanying Bourita were key figures such as Mohamed Arrouchi, the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Morocco to the AU and ECA-UN, and Mohamed Methqal, the Ambassador and Director-General of the Moroccan Agency for International Cooperation. The team also included Imane Ouaadil, the Ambassador of Morocco to Ghana, and Hassane Boukili, the Director of the Great Maghreb, UMA, and AU Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates.

Strategic Discussions and Future Plans

The two-day meeting in Accra focused on evaluating essential reports and addressing pivotal issues crucial to the continent’s progress. Key topics on the agenda included the AU’s 2024 theme of education, participation in the G20, partnerships, and the adoption of the 2025 budget.

Morocco’s presence and active participation in these discussions highlight the country's commitment to contributing meaningfully to the African Union’s goals and initiatives, particularly in the realm of transparency and anti-corruption efforts.

Nadia Annouz’s election to the AUABC is not just a personal achievement but a testament to Morocco’s role and influence within the African Union, setting a precedent for future engagements and collaborations aimed at fostering integrity and combating corruption across the continent.

As Morocco embarks on this new chapter within the AUABC, the nation’s proactive stance on corruption will undoubtedly contribute to broader efforts to enhance governance and integrity throughout Africa. Annouz’s leadership and Morocco’s strategic involvement in the African Union herald a promising era of cooperation and progress in the fight against corruption.

This election marks a significant milestone for Morocco, reinforcing its position as a key player in the regional and continental landscape, committed to the principles of integrity and transparency.
