Vincent Bolloré to testify before public broadcasting inquiry on March 24
French businessman Vincent Bolloré is set to testify on Tuesday, March 24, before the parliamentary commission investigating public broadcasting. The hearing, scheduled at 3:30 PM, will focus on his role as a major shareholder in Banijay, a leading production company working closely with France Télévisions.
The commission’s president, Jérémie Patrier-Leitus, emphasized that Bolloré is not being called due to his ownership of private media outlets but because of his financial stake in Banijay through Vivendi. Banijay produces prominent public television programs such as Fort Boyard and N’oubliez pas les paroles, as well as private channel content including TF1’s Koh-Lanta.
Patrier-Leitus noted that the hearing could address Banijay’s alliance with foreign partner All3Media and broader questions about foreign ownership in French production companies. The aim is to understand whether French companies can remain European and global champions in broadcasting under domestic ownership.
While the focus remains on public broadcasting, the commission may explore wider issues, including past controversies involving CNews and former presenter Morandini, who was convicted of corruption of minors. Bolloré’s insights as a businessman and shareholder are expected to shed light on the complex relationship between private media ownership and public broadcasting.
