Sonia Mabrouk resigns from Europe 1 amid media controversy

French journalist Sonia Mabrouk announced her resignation from the radio station Europe 1 on Friday, following her recent departure from CNews. The move comes amid controversy surrounding host Jean-Marc Morandini, who remained on air despite convictions related to the corruption of minors.

In a statement, Mabrouk cited coherence with her earlier decision at CNews. “Despite my strong attachment to Europe 1, I have decided to leave my position as a political interviewer, where I took my first steps in radio,” she said. She expressed gratitude to loyal listeners and colleagues who accompanied her throughout nearly fifteen years of broadcasting, as well as to Constance Benqué, CEO of Lagardère Radio, Europe 1’s parent company.

Future plans

Mabrouk also mentioned she will focus on personal milestones, including the upcoming birth of her second child expected in spring. Her resignation reflects both professional and ethical considerations following disagreements with management over Morandini’s continued presence on the channel.

Jean-Marc Morandini has since stepped away from his broadcasting duties for an unspecified period, stating on the social platform X that the hiatus aims to “restore calm necessary for the newsroom’s work.”

The departures highlight ongoing tensions within French media regarding accountability, ethics, and public trust, particularly in high-profile news organizations.
