Citroën chooses Kénitra to produce its future C4 model

The French automaker Citroën has selected its industrial site in Kénitra to produce the next generation of its C4 model, expected to be launched around 2029, according to industry reports.

The decision reinforces the growing role of Morocco as a key hub in the global automotive supply chain, particularly within the operations of parent group Stellantis.

The future C4 is expected to draw inspiration from recent concept developments, including Citroën’s design studies focused on electrification, sustainability, and compact versatility. The model is likely to be based on Stellantis’ STLA Small platform, designed to support multiple powertrains ranging from hybrid systems to fully electric configurations.

This flexible architecture aims to allow manufacturers to adapt vehicles to different markets while optimizing production costs and technological efficiency.

Kénitra has emerged in recent years as a competitive automotive production center, benefiting from modern infrastructure, skilled labor, and strong logisical links with Europe. These advantages have made it increasingly attractive to major international carmakers seekting cost-efficient manufacturing bases close to European markets.

The future C4 is expected to move further toward the SUV compact segment, reflecting broader trends in the European automotive industry, where demand for versatile and efficient crossover vehicles continues to grow.

By localizing production in Morocco, Citroën aims to strengthen its competitiveness against rivals in the compact vehicle segment while supporting its broader strategy of maintaining an affordable positioning within the Stellantis portfolio.
