BYD unveils new electric Seagull model in Morocco

In a significant move for the North African automotive sector, BYD has launched its latest all-electric vehicle, the Seagull, in Morocco. This introduction marks the sixth model the company has rolled out since entering the Moroccan market in July 2023, following the HAN, TANG, ATTO 3, SEAL, and SEAL U PHEV.

The compact urban vehicle will be available starting Saturday through AutoNejma dealerships in major cities, including Casablanca, Rabat, Marrakech, Agadir, and Tangier.

Engineered specifically for urban environments, the Seagull boasts a 38.88 kWh battery pack, providing an impressive urban range of 445 kilometers. The vehicle supports both AC and DC charging capabilities, featuring 7kW AC and 40kW DC options. With DC fast charging, the battery can be replenished from 30% to 80% in approximately 30 minutes, making it a practical choice for daily city driving.

Powered by a 55kW (77 horsepower) electric motor, the Seagull offers a maximum torque of 135Nm and achieves a top speed of 130 km/h. The model incorporates BYD’s cutting-edge E-Platform 3.0 and Blade Battery technology, designed to enhance both performance and safety.

The compact dimensions of the vehicle—measuring 3,780mm in length, 1,715mm in width, and 1,580mm in height—are complemented by a dynamic exterior inspired by ocean wave movements. The Seagull is available in three color options: black, white, and green.

Inside, the vehicle merges functionality with modern technology, featuring vegan leather sport seats and ample storage compartments. A notable highlight is the 10.1-inch electrically rotating touchscreen display, compatible with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, as well as voice control functionality for improved user interaction.

Safety is paramount, with six airbags and a high-strength body structure designed to meet rigorous safety standards, ensuring comfort for urban drivers who prioritize security alongside convenience.

The Seagull will be offered in Morocco exclusively in a single “full option” variant, priced at 209,900 MAD ($20,990, including tax). This competitive pricing strategy positions it well within the expanding electric vehicle market segment.

At the launch event in Casablanca, Adil Bennani, General Manager of Auto Nejma, emphasized the strategic significance of this new model. “The launch of the BYD Seagull represents a major milestone for BYD in Morocco,” he remarked, highlighting its potential to enhance urban mobility solutions throughout the country.
