Ibrahim Taik pursues his rally dream across Morocco’s desert tracks

For Moroccan rally driver Ibrahim Taik, the desert tracks between Erfoud and Merzouga represent more than a demanding sporting challenge. They are another step in a journey that began with a childhood fascination for motorsport and has gradually developed into a serious competitive ambition.

Taik is currently taking part in Classics Africa 2026, held from September 13 to 18 across the desert landscapes of southeastern Morocco. The event is serving as an important preparation stage ahead of the upcoming Rallye du Maroc, one of the country's major off-road competitions.

Nearly 1,000 kilometers of demanding terrain

Driving a Polaris RZR XP 1000, Taik is competing alongside co-driver Saïd Ahnana. The pair face five stages covering almost 1,000 kilometers, with the route combining sand, dunes and open desert terrain.

Such conditions place multiple demands on a crew. Speed alone is not enough: competitors must maintain concentration over long distances, manage their vehicles carefully and navigate changing terrain while dealing with the physical demands of desert racing.

For Taik, the competition provides valuable experience as he continues preparing for the next major challenge on the Moroccan rally calendar.
