Morocco and Estonia committed to strengthening bilateral partnership

In a significant diplomatic exchange in Tallinn, Morocco and Estonia reaffirmed their mutual commitment to deepening cooperation across key sectors. Estonian Foreign Minister 0 and his Moroccan counterpart Nasser Bourita highlighted the positive momentum driving their bilateral relations, which was bolstered by a Joint Declaration signed in Rabat on October 21, 2024.

The two ministers emphasized the economic strengths of both nations and agreed on the importance of encouraging business leaders to explore new investment opportunities, particularly in digital technology and renewable energy. They also advocated for regular economic forums to foster business interaction and long-term collaboration.

Estonia expressed particular interest in Morocco’s strategic role as a gateway to African markets and proposed developing joint initiatives under a tripartite framework involving Morocco, Estonia, and African countries. These projects would target vital sectors including digital transformation and energy transition.

In addition, Estonia publicly endorsed Morocco’s autonomy plan for the Sahara, presented in 2007, viewing it as a credible and realistic basis for resolving the conflict. Estonia also called on other nations to support this approach, aligning its stance with recent UN Security Council Resolution 2756, which welcomes the ongoing progress and encourages further advancement.

During the press conference, Minister Tsahkna commended the leadership of King Mohammed VI and Morocco’s role as a regional pillar of peace, stability, and development. He reiterated Estonia’s interest in strengthening diplomatic and economic ties with Morocco, praising the ongoing reforms and Morocco’s growing prominence as a strategic partner for the European Union.

The Estonian Foreign Ministry also acknowledged several major African initiatives led by Morocco, including the Atlantic Sahel Access Initiative, the Atlantic African States Process, and the Morocco-Nigeria Gas Pipeline Project.

This landmark meeting marks the first official visit of a Moroccan Foreign Minister to Estonia and reflects the shared ambition of both nations to expand political dialogue, enhance economic cooperation, and coordinate on regional and global issues of mutual interest.
