US-Morocco small business summit 2025 showcases growing partnerships

The Moroccan-American Network recently hosted the ninth edition of the Small Business Summit 2025 in Alexandria, Virginia, a vibrant event that brought together entrepreneurs, officials, and business leaders from both Morocco and the United States. The summit aimed to bolster economic ties between the two nations while providing a platform for Moroccan entrepreneurs in the US to explore investment opportunities.

Alexandria Mayor Alyia Gaskins delivered an opening address, commending the Moroccan-American Network and its subsidiary, Avactions audio visual, for spearheading the initiative. Operated by Mohamed Hajjam, a Moroccan-American businessman, Avactions has been a key driver in supporting and celebrating small business owners for over two decades.

“Small businesses drive our economy and keep our communities strong,” said Mayor Gaskins. She highlighted the summit’s focus on fostering entrepreneurship and community engagement, which she described as core elements of Alexandria’s dynamic and prosperous identity.

City Manager James Parajon also praised the enduring partnership between the US and Morocco, emphasizing the event’s contribution to strengthening economic collaboration between the two nations. With a gross domestic product surpassing $20 billion, Alexandria is a hub for business innovation, supported by a thriving Moroccan-American community of over 20,000 residents.

“Their presence forms an essential part of our economy,” Parajon remarked, underscoring the significant role Moroccans play in Alexandria's economic and cultural landscape.

Hajjam expressed his gratitude for the recognition received during the event. “At Avactions, we believe in the power of small businesses to transform communities and create opportunities for future generations,” he stated.

The Moroccan-American Network has made a lasting impact on the local community through initiatives like “Morocco Day” and by receiving the symbolic “Key to the City” from Alexandria. The network aims to celebrate Moroccan heritage while promoting business growth and cross-cultural exchange.

Looking ahead, the organization plans to host another event on May 10 under the theme, “Rooted in Morocco, Thriving in America: Moroccan Success Stories.” This gathering will unite Moroccan business leaders from across the US and Morocco to continue fostering mutual growth and investment.

The partnership between Morocco and the United States, spanning over two centuries, remains a cornerstone of their shared history. Built on trade, diplomacy, and innovation, this enduring relationship continues to thrive, with expanding investments and a growing exchange of goods and ideas.
