Zelensky to consult European allies before meeting Trump
Kyiv/Washington, December 27, 2025 — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that he will hold consultations with European allies before his upcoming meeting with former U.S. President Donald Trump, scheduled for Sunday in Florida.
Speaking to journalists via a messaging application during his flight to the United States, Zelensky said his trip includes a stopover in Canada. There, he is expected to meet Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and take part in online discussions with European leaders.
The talks are intended to align positions ahead of his meeting with Trump, which will focus on diplomatic efforts to end the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. According to Ukrainian officials, sensitive issues related to territorial matters are expected to be central to the discussions.
The meeting comes amid renewed international efforts to explore possible paths toward a negotiated settlement, as the conflict continues to have major political and security implications for Europe and beyond.
