First Bridge pillar completed on Kenitra-Marrakech high-speed rail project

Construction work on the future high-speed rail line linking Kenitra and Marrakech has reached a new milestone with the successful completion of the first concrete pouring for a pillar of the Ikkem Bridge, part of the project’s ninth section.

The operation marks the beginning of the main structural phase for several bridges included in the railway expansion project. Engineers and technical teams completed the work after hours of continuous operations while following strict quality and safety standards.

The Ikkem Bridge is considered one of the technically demanding sections of the project because it crosses a busy roadway and requires precise engineering coordination. According to project officials, the pillar was built using reinforced concrete designed to meet both Moroccan and international construction standards.

The future high-speed railway, stretching approximately 430 kilometers, is designed for trains capable of reaching speeds of up to 320 kilometers per hour. The infrastructure project forms part of Morocco’s broader strategy to modernize transportation networks and improve connectivity between major cities.

Authorities also view the railway expansion as an important component of national infrastructure preparations linked to the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which Morocco will co-host alongside Spain and Portugal.

The ninth section of the project includes several viaducts and large-scale earthworks, highlighting the scale of one of the country’s most ambitious transportation developments in recent years.
