Morocco foils terror plot: BCIJ arrests Daesh supporter in Tétouan
Moroccan authorities have neutralized an imminent terrorist threat by arresting a Daesh supporter in Tétouan, the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ) announced on Wednesday. The suspect was reportedly in an advanced stage of planning a sabotage attack targeting critical infrastructure in the kingdom.
The BCIJ, under the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST), said the individual had pledged allegiance to Daesh and had been meticulously preparing a plot intended to disrupt public order and sow panic and chaos. Initial reports indicate that the suspect aimed at sensitive installations vital to national security.
Investigators discovered that the suspect had extensively studied extremist materials, including instructions for manufacturing explosives and incendiary devices, and had used secure communication platforms to coordinate with other members of the terrorist organization.
During a search of his residence, authorities seized computers, manuscripts detailing homemade explosive techniques, and digital evidence of his commitment to jihadist ideology.
The suspect has been placed in custody under judicial supervision as authorities work to uncover his possible links to international terrorist networks, identify potential sponsors, and determine whether any accomplices were involved.
This preventive operation reflects Morocco’s proactive counterterrorism strategy, targeting lone actors or small cells sympathetic to Daesh.
