Türkiye expresses condolences over deadly landslide in DR Congo

Türkiye expressed its deep condolences on Sunday following a deadly landslide at the Rubaya coltan mine in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs called the tragedy one of the most severe mining disasters in recent history.

In an official statement, Ankara conveyed sympathy to the families of the victims and wished a swift recovery for the injured. “We extend our condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and to the people of the Democratic Republic of the Congo,” the ministry said.

The landslide occurred on Wednesday in North Kivu province, where media reports indicate that over 200 people lost their lives. Emergency services and local authorities are working to manage the aftermath of the disaster and provide assistance to survivors.

Türkiye’s response emphasizes solidarity with the DRC and highlights ongoing concerns about safety in artisanal and industrial mining operations in the region.
