Royal Air Maroc expands fleet with Embraer E190 delivery

Royal Air Maroc is preparing to strengthen its regional fleet with the addition of an Embraer E190 aircraft, marking another step in its ongoing capacity expansion strategy. The move is part of a wider effort to modernize operations and increase connectivity across domestic and regional routes.

The new aircraft will raise the number of Embraer E190 jets operated by the airline to five. It will also bring the total fleet size to 66 aircraft. The aircraft is configured with 96 seats, divided between 84 in economy class and 12 in business class, reflecting the carrier’s dual focus on affordability and premium service.

The aircraft will be introduced through a leasing arrangement, a model widely used in the aviation industry to allow airlines to scale capacity quickly without the immediate financial burden of full ownership. This approach gives carriers flexibility in responding to demand fluctuations while managing investment risk.

The Embraer E190, produced by Brazilian manufacturer Embraer, is a widely used regional jet known for efficiency on short to medium-haul routes. Cooperation between Morocco and the Brazilian aerospace sector has been expanding in recent years, including agreements linked to industrial development and potential defense aviation procurement discussions.

The fleet expansion comes as Royal Air Maroc positions itself for increased international demand ahead of major upcoming events, including the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which Morocco will co-host with Spain and Portugal. National tourism targets also project strong growth, with expectations of more than 26 million visitors by the end of the decade. At the same time, the airline continues to face operational scrutiny, including past passenger complaints related to delays and onboard disruptions.
