Royal Air Maroc strengthens fleet with new Boeing 737 MAX 8 additions

Royal Air Maroc (RAM) has expanded its fleet with the delivery of two Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, marking a significant step in the airline's growth strategy. The new planes, received on Thursday, are part of the company’s broader plan to modernize its operations and prepare for major international events, including the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

A milestone in expansion

Speaking to Moroccan news outlet Le360, Fadwa Mahamma, head of RAM's Prospective, Strategy, and Fleet Department, highlighted the importance of the new additions. "This is a big day for us," Mahamma said, emphasizing that the deliveries represent "a significant acceleration in the expansion of our fleet, fully aligned with our company’s ambitions supported by the State."

Mahamma also noted that RAM has maintained a steady pace of fleet growth, with “nearly one aircraft arriving every two weeks.” By the end of 2025, the airline anticipates adding around ten new planes to its operations.

Enhancing efficiency and customer experience

Mehdi El Yaalaoui, RAM’s Director of Strategy and Innovation, underscored the benefits of the new aircraft, which are equipped with next-generation engines that aim to reduce the airline’s carbon footprint by 15%. He also noted that the additions will enhance the onboard experience for passengers, aligning with the company’s commitment to service excellence.

“These deliveries symbolize our collective commitment to achieving the goals of our development plan,” El Yaalaoui said. He added that the fleet expansion positions RAM to meet growing demands and take advantage of pivotal events for Morocco and Africa.

Challenges with past delays

While the new deliveries signal progress, RAM CEO Hamid Addou has previously expressed frustration over delays in Boeing’s aircraft submissions. Speaking to CNN, Addou described the challenges posed by delays of up to 18 months, which have affected airlines globally. However, he acknowledged improvements in the supply chain, noting that steps have been taken to ensure future deliveries align with the airline's growth objectives.

With these recent additions, RAM is reaffirming its role as a key player in the aviation industry, supporting Morocco’s ambitions on the global stage.
