Morocco housing aid surpasses 101000 beneficiaries milestone

The direct housing assistance program in Morocco has expanded rapidly, reaching 101,521 beneficiaries as of 7 May. The scheme targets low and middle-income households and aims to improve access to adequate housing conditions across the country. Officials presented the latest figures during a session before the Chamber of Councillors, outlining the scale and structure of applications received since the launch of the program.

More than 263,000 applications have been submitted by around 214,000 citizens. Authorities report that 193,000 applicants were deemed eligible under the program’s criteria. Middle-income households represent the largest share of beneficiaries, accounting for roughly 60 percent of the total. The data indicates broad participation across different social segments, reflecting sustained demand for structured housing support.

Women account for 47 percent of approved beneficiaries, showing significant gender participation in the program. Young people under the age of 40 represent 52 percent of recipients, highlighting strong uptake among younger demographics. Moroccans residing abroad make up nearly one quarter of the beneficiaries, pointing to continued engagement from the diaspora in domestic housing investment.

The program marks a shift in national housing policy by replacing indirect subsidies to developers with direct financial support to homebuyers. Applicants now select properties based on personal needs and market availability. The system relies on a digital platform that verifies eligibility using national identification data and issues approval decisions within a short timeframe, often under one week. Officials say the process is designed to improve transparency and reduce administrative delays.

Economic indicators linked to the program show increased activity in supported housing transactions, which rose by 6.7 percent and reached about 99,000 units in 2025. The total value of acquired properties exceeds 41 billion dirhams, with public contributions estimated at around 8 billion dirhams, close to 20 percent of the overall value. Authorities expect the initiative to contribute to the reduction of substandard housing over time while stimulating formal real estate demand.
