Rare snowfall blankets Oujda after years of absence

The city of Oujda experienced rare and significant snowfall on Tuesday evening, as thick white layers covered streets and public squares across the capital of Morocco’s Oriental region, marking the return of snow after several years of absence.

Snow began falling early in the evening, quickly transforming the urban landscape and creating scenes of excitement among residents. Many locals took to the streets to enjoy the unusual weather, capturing photos and videos to commemorate what they described as an exceptional and joyful moment.

This snowfall comes amid a cold wave affecting the Oriental region, as previously forecast by the General Directorate of Meteorology. Weather services had warned of incoming cold air masses responsible for a sharp drop in temperatures, accompanied by rain and snow in several areas.

Residents expressed optimism about the snowfall, highlighting its potential benefits for groundwater reserves and the agricultural season. Beyond its environmental impact, the snow also brought a rare visual charm to the city, one that had been missing for many years.
