UM6P Showcases Morocco's Pioneering AI Endeavors to Global CIOs
In a remarkable event, the University Mohammed VI Polytechnic (UM6P) hosted a delegation of Chief Information Officers (CIOs) from some of the world's most prominent multinational corporations, providing them with a captivating glimpse into Morocco's pioneering endeavors in the realm of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The visit was part of the CIOmove initiative, a global program designed to bring together CIOs from a diverse array of multinational companies, each boasting an average revenue of $5 billion or more.
As the effective utilization of AI has emerged as a pivotal catalyst for boosting productivity and revenue, the role of the CIO has assumed paramount importance in the business landscape. Recognizing this, the visiting delegation converged at UM6P's AI Dome, a state-of-the-art facility located on the outskirts of Rabat, to witness firsthand the remarkable strides Morocco has taken in the field of AI.
The day commenced with a warm welcome at UM6P's Rabat campus, where the AI Dome serves as a hub for Moroccan and African AI research and development. The CIOs were greeted by Fallah Seghrouchni, a prominent figure in Morocco's AI movement, and Horst Ellerman, the ambassador for the CIOmove initiative.
The morning program unfolded with an extensive exploration of UM6P's AI research and development activities, providing the visiting delegation with a comprehensive overview of the various fields within AI research that the university is undertaking. From computer vision to the practical application of AI in Morocco's leading firms, the CIOs were treated to a detailed presentation on the research and deployment of AI in the country.
Following the introduction, the delegation was divided into smaller groups using an innovative algorithm, facilitating focused discussions on topics ranging from AI in healthcare to the use and enhancement of Large Language Models (LLMs). These topics were predetermined by the participants themselves through a voting system prior to the trip, ensuring that the discussions aligned with their collective interests.
Embodying the spirit of its name, the CIOmove initiative places a strong emphasis on dynamic networking. Accordingly, the participating CIOs were prepared for an active experience, with many opting for sneakers over traditional business attire. As the group embarked on a guided tour of UM6P's campus, visiting some of its state-of-the-art facilities, the CIOs engaged in lively discussions, exchanging ideas and sharing their newfound Moroccan experiences.
After a refreshment break, the afternoon session commenced with an introductory plenary delivered by Hicham Chiguer, the President of AUSIM, followed by four engaging breakout sessions. During these sessions, participants gained valuable insights into the innovative ways in which Morocco is leveraging AI, including the groundbreaking approach employed by OCP Group, the country's largest company, to generate electricity from excess heat.
The inspiring day concluded on a high note, with the participating CIOs departing UM6P's campus brimming with enthusiasm as they prepared to continue their journey through Morocco, exploring the nation's innovative endeavors in the realm of AI.
