U.S. Postal Service signs multi-year parcel delivery deal with DHL eCommerce

The United States Postal Service (USPS) has announced a multi-year agreement with DHL eCommerce to provide last-mile parcel delivery services across the United States, in a deal expected to exceed $10 billion in value.

The partnership strengthens DHL’s presence in the American logistics market while supporting USPS operations in managing nationwide delivery demand. DHL eCommerce, a division of Germany’s DHL Group, will handle package collection and sorting at its U.S. hubs, while USPS will complete final delivery to households.

According to USPS leadership, the agreement leverages the Postal Service’s unmatched delivery network, which reaches more than 170 million households across the country six days per week.

Postmaster General David Steiner stated that DHL would benefit from access to the largest delivery market in the world without needing to build a full nationwide infrastructure from scratch. Instead, the company can rely on USPS’s established “last-mile” capabilities.

DHL executives noted that the partnership is expected to support expansion in the United States, particularly in handling heavier parcels and increasing processing capacity across distribution hubs.

The agreement comes at a critical time for USPS, which has faced financial pressure and liquidity concerns in recent months. The organization has previously warned about potential cash shortfalls if operational conditions do not improve.

The deal also reflects broader trends in the global logistics industry, where partnerships between national postal services and private delivery firms are becoming increasingly common to meet rising e-commerce demand.
