Two people killed by gunfire in Saône-et-Loire, homicide investigation opened
Two people were found dead from gunshot wounds in a residential property in the region of Saône-et-Loire, prompting the opening of a homicide investigation, according to local authorities and emergency services.
Firefighters were called on Friday afternoon to a home in the town of Pierre-de-Bresse, where they discovered the bodies of a man and a woman who had both been shot. The small town is located approximately 40 minutes from Chalon-sur-Saône.
According to emergency services, the victims were born in 1960 and 1961. A third person, described as a witness, was also present at the scene. Authorities have not confirmed whether there was any relationship between the victims.
An investigation for homicide has been opened and entrusted to the Gendarmerie nationale, specifically its investigative unit based in Louhans. Officials confirmed that witness interviews are currently underway as part of the ongoing inquiry.
Investigators are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting, including possible motives and the sequence of events that led to the deaths. No further details have been released at this stage.
The case adds to growing concern in France over incidents of gun violence, which remain relatively rare but often lead to intensive judicial investigations when they occur.
Authorities have urged the public to await official findings as the investigation continues.
