Two men arrested in Utah after explosive device found under news vehicle
Authorities in Utah announced the arrest of two men after an explosive device was discovered under a news vehicle in Salt Lake City. Officials confirmed that the bomb had been lit but failed to detonate.
The suspicious device was found on Friday beneath a vehicle parked near an occupied building. Police and bomb squad teams secured the area and determined that the device did not function as intended.
Following an investigation, the FBI identified two suspects and conducted a search at a residence in Magna, just west of Salt Lake City. Two men, aged 58 and 31, were taken into custody. They could face charges related to terrorism and unlawful weapons possession, according to local media reports.
During the search, neighboring homes were evacuated as authorities discovered explosives, weapons components, firearms, illegal drugs, and additional paraphernalia. Court records also revealed the presence of at least two fake devices designed to appear as weapons of mass destruction.
Officials have not released details regarding the motive behind the attempted attack or the relationship between the two suspects.
The incident occurred as Salt Lake City has been in the spotlight following the assassination of Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk last week, which has already attracted significant national media attention.
