Russian traveler spends $14,000 on Maldives flight in first half of 2026

A new report from Russian travel service Toto has revealed that the most expensive airline ticket purchased by a Russian traveler during the first half of 2026 was a round-trip flight from Moscow to the Maldives, costing 1.1 million rubles, or approximately $14,000.

The findings are based on an analysis of bookings made between January and June 2026, highlighting the continued demand for luxury international travel despite higher transportation costs in many parts of the world.

According to the report, the most expensive one-way airline ticket purchased during the same period cost 864,400 rubles and was booked for a flight from St. Petersburg to Mumbai, India.

The study also examined other forms of transportation. In the railway sector, the highest-priced ticket was sold for a journey from Adler to Moscow, with a fare of 187,900 rubles. Meanwhile, the most expensive long-distance bus ticket connected Moscow with Augsburg, Germany, at a price of 31,300 rubles.

Travel analysts note that premium travel demand remains strong among affluent customers seeking greater comfort, flexible schedules, and exclusive services. Long-haul international destinations, particularly luxury beach resorts such as the Maldives, continue to attract travelers willing to pay significantly higher fares for premium cabins and personalized travel experiences.

Although average ticket prices remain far below these record figures, the report illustrates the wide range of travel spending across the market and reflects the growing availability of high-end transportation options for international travelers.
