Dakhla Atlantic Port Construction Surpasses 74% Completion in September 2026
Construction of Morocco’s Dakhla Atlantic Port has passed the 74% completion mark, signalling further progress on one of the country’s major maritime infrastructure projects. According to an update from SGTM, the construction group involved in the development, work had reached this milestone by the end of September 2026.
The project is designed around a series of large-scale maritime structures intended to establish the foundations of a major port facility on Morocco’s Atlantic coast. Its development involves extensive coastal protection works, commercial port facilities and a dedicated maritime access bridge.
Extensive maritime engineering works
Among the project’s principal components are 7.5 kilometres of maritime protection structures. These installations are intended to protect the port infrastructure and form a key part of the wider construction programme.
The development also includes more than 2,300 metres of port quays, providing the infrastructure required for vessels to access the port and for future port operations.
Another major component is a 1,330-metre maritime access bridge. Together, these structures represent a substantial engineering undertaking, requiring coordinated work across several sections of the construction site.
Construction continues across multiple components
In its latest communication, SGTM confirmed that construction activities remain underway across the different structures forming the Dakhla Atlantic Port project.
The group also highlighted the deployment of its technical expertise and operational resources to advance the work. However, the update did not provide a detailed breakdown of completion rates for individual structures or specify a revised delivery date.
The overall progress figure of more than 74% offers a snapshot of the project's development at the end of September, while the remaining work will determine the pace at which the various port facilities can be completed.
A major infrastructure project on Morocco’s Atlantic coast
The scale of the planned protection works, quays and access bridge underscores the engineering complexity of the Dakhla Atlantic Port. Its development forms part of the expansion of maritime infrastructure in southern Morocco.
As construction advances, attention will remain on the completion of the principal structures and the transition towards the port’s eventual operational phase. The latest update confirms substantial progress, although further milestones will be needed to establish the project's final completion timetable.
