Türkiye to strengthen cooperation with Senegal across key sectors, minister says

Türkiye has reaffirmed its commitment to deepening cooperation with Senegal, with a focus on development, humanitarian support, and long-term partnerships across multiple sectors.

Speaking at the conclusion of the sixth Türkiye–Senegal Joint Economic Commission meeting in Dakar, Family and Social Services Minister Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş emphasized that Ankara’s engagement with Africa goes beyond economic interests.

She highlighted that Türkiye’s foreign policy toward the continent combines entrepreneurship with humanitarian assistance, aiming to support Senegal’s development process while addressing social needs.

The minister noted that both countries are working to expand collaboration in areas such as healthcare, education, agriculture, and the economic empowerment of women. These sectors are seen as essential for sustainable growth and inclusive development.

Türkiye’s broader Africa strategy, launched in 2003, has significantly strengthened ties with African nations. Trade between Türkiye and the continent has grown markedly over the years, reflecting expanding economic relations and increased investment.

Institutional cooperation has also deepened, with Türkiye maintaining a wide diplomatic and commercial presence across Africa. Development initiatives in Senegal have been carried out through Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency, supporting projects in infrastructure, education, and community services.

Education remains a central pillar of bilateral relations, with hundreds of Senegalese students benefiting from scholarships and academic exchange programs. Additional efforts include cooperation in higher education and the promotion of the Turkish language.

Officials from both countries expressed their intention to further enhance collaboration in social services and explore new joint initiatives in the coming years, underlining a partnership built on mutual respect and shared goals.
