Türkiye’s naval engineering strength elevates country to global maritime league
Türkiye’s national defense and maritime engineering capabilities are gaining international recognition through STM Defense Technologies Engineering, a company leveraging 35 years of experience to position Türkiye as a strategic maritime power.
With a workforce of nearly 300 engineers, STM manages all phases of naval projects, including corvettes, frigates, fast attack crafts, logistics support vessels, and submarines. The company has delivered 44 military naval platforms across 11 shipyards, both domestically and abroad, and has raised the localization rate in Turkey’s military shipbuilding industry, reducing reliance on foreign systems.
STM’s portfolio includes flagship projects such as ADA-class corvettes, the TCG UFUK Test and Training Ship, Türkiye’s first national frigate TCG İSTANBUL, and several export projects for Malaysia, Ukraine, Portugal, and Pakistan. STM has also pioneered Türkiye’s first military ship export to an EU and NATO member country with logistics support ships delivered to Portugal.
In submarine technology, STM is spearheading construction and modernization programs, including the national STM500 submarine designed for special operations and attack missions, and modernization of Turkish and Pakistani submarines. The company is also developing the NETA Autonomous Underwater Vehicle, signaling Türkiye’s entry into unmanned maritime systems on the global stage.
STM General Manager Özgür Güleryüz emphasized the company’s global position: “By transforming our national engineering know-how into exports, we continue to enhance Türkiye’s maritime deterrence and international standing. Our priority is to deliver innovative and powerful platforms while expanding our autonomous maritime systems.”
