Trump says there are “good chances” for successful talks with Iran

US President Donald Trump has expressed optimism about the possibility of reaching a positive outcome through ongoing talks with Iran, while warning that Washington could resume military action if diplomatic efforts fail.

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on Monday while traveling to Michigan, Trump said he believed there were “good chances” that the negotiations could produce a favorable result, although he stopped short of offering details about the discussions.

At the same time, the US president reiterated that his administration was prepared to return to military operations if the talks did not succeed. Referring to previous strikes against Iran, Trump warned that Washington could resume its earlier course of action should diplomacy fail.

Trump also claimed that Iran’s military capabilities had been significantly weakened, without providing further details about the extent of the damage or the specific operations to which he was referring.

The US president further addressed the issue of Iranian assets frozen under American control. He suggested that the funds could potentially be used to cover damages that Washington attributes to Iran, adding that the money could be directed toward compensation for losses.

Meanwhile, Trump sought to dismiss concerns about a possible shortage of ammunition within the US military following months of military operations involving Iran. His comments came amid continued speculation over the sustainability of American military resources.

The latest statements follow Trump's announcement earlier in July that the United States had agreed to continue discussions with Iran in an effort to end the conflict. At the same time, he indicated that the ceasefire announced in April was no longer in effect.

Trump's remarks highlight the uncertain balance between diplomacy and military pressure as Washington and Tehran remain engaged in a tense confrontation. While the US president has signaled a willingness to pursue negotiations, his repeated warnings of renewed military action underline the fragile nature of the diplomatic process.
