Three Qatari diplomats killed in car accident near Sharm El-Sheikh

Three Qatari diplomats were killed and two others injured in a car accident near the Egyptian resort city of Sharm El-Sheikh, where a crucial summit on Gaza is scheduled for Monday, Qatar announced Sunday. Qatar has been a key mediator in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.

The Qatari embassy in Cairo expressed “its deep sorrow and grief over the death of three of its officials in a tragic road accident in Sharm El-Sheikh while on duty.”

The deceased will be flown to Doha on Sunday aboard a Qatari plane, along with the two injured diplomats who are currently receiving medical care in Sharm El-Sheikh, the embassy stated.

According to Al-Qahera News, linked to Egyptian security services, the accident occurred due to a loss of control while driving.

In recent days, talks have taken place in Sharm El-Sheikh on the Red Sea to end the war between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip. Qatar, along with Egypt and the United States, has participated in months of negotiations aimed at establishing a ceasefire in the Palestinian territory, which came into effect on Friday.

Last week, Sharm El-Sheikh hosted officials from the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas and Israel, as well as mediating countries, for intensive talks to ensure the ceasefire based on a 20-point plan presented by U.S. President Donald Trump.

Starting Monday, the city will host a peace summit organized by Donald Trump and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sissi, with leaders from more than twenty countries attending, including France and the United Kingdom.
