Casablanca Stock Exchange Opens Higher as MASI Gains 0.43%
The Casablanca Stock Exchange opened Friday, October 23, 2026, on a positive note, with its main benchmark advancing as trading began. The MASI index rose by 0.43% to reach 17,207.28 points, extending the upward momentum recorded during the previous session.
The opening performance points to continued positive movement across Morocco’s equity market, with gains also recorded by indices tracking the most liquid listed companies and businesses meeting environmental, social and governance criteria.
Key Market Indices Move Into Positive Territory
The MASI 20, which follows the performance of the 20 most liquid stocks listed in Casablanca, gained 0.59% to reach 1,251.61 points at the opening.
The MASI ESG index also advanced, rising 0.48% to 1,269.11 points. This benchmark tracks companies assessed for their environmental, social and governance performance, using ratings provided by Moody’s ESG Solutions.
Meanwhile, the MASI Mid and Small Cap index, which reflects the performance of listed small and medium-sized companies, climbed 0.62% to 1,639.46 points.
The simultaneous increases across the four benchmarks indicate that the opening gains extended beyond the market’s main index to several segments of the listed equity market.
Positive Momentum Follows Thursday’s Gains
Friday’s opening came after a positive session on Thursday, when the MASI closed 0.74% higher at 17,134.15 points.
The previous session also saw advances across the MASI 20, the MASI ESG and the MASI Mid and Small Cap indices, suggesting that the market entered Friday’s trading session following a broadly favourable close.
However, opening movements provide only an initial indication of market direction. The final performance will depend on trading activity throughout the session, as investors respond to company-specific developments and wider economic conditions.
Investors Monitor the Direction of Moroccan Equities
The Casablanca Stock Exchange remains a key platform for assessing investor sentiment toward Morocco’s listed companies. Movements in its principal indices offer a snapshot of market performance, while sector-specific and individual stock variations can reveal differences in how investors assess business prospects.
The gains recorded at Friday’s opening provide a positive start to the session, although they do not, on their own, establish a longer-term market trend.
Further trading activity will determine whether the initial advance is maintained through the close.
