In recent years, the automotive industry has emerged as a driving force behind Morocco's economic growth. Within a relatively short span, the sector has transformed into the nation's foremost industrial domain, attracting numerous foreign industry leaders specializing in the manufacturing of automotive parts, components, and vehicle assembly.

Morocco's strategic positioning on the Kenitra-Rabat-Casablanca axis has proven attractive for French, German, and Japanese companies seeking to relocate their production facilities. The country has proactively prepared for this pivotal shift by prioritizing education and training as crucial elements, establishing specialized professional and university curricula in quality engineering, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering. Simultaneously, Morocco has invested in developing a skilled workforce of technicians to support this burgeoning and promising sector, which is projected to achieve a remarkable 5.8% growth rate by the end of 2024.

Ryad Mezzour, the Minister of Industry and Commerce, has consistently emphasized the automotive industry's importance during discussions with foreign partners interested in investing in Morocco. This sector was a central topic during his recent talks with Bruno Le Maire, the French Minister of Economy, who visited the kingdom this week.

France and Morocco are keen to further deepen their partnership in the automotive industry, building upon the successful experiences of Renault and PSA. The French minister highlighted the complementary nature of Moroccan and French industries in this domain and underscored the opportunities presented by electric vehicles.

The automotive sector accounts for an impressive 86% of Morocco's national exports and has created nearly 238,000 new jobs through the establishment of over 260 active factories across the country. This remarkable growth has significantly strengthened Morocco's labor market by generating a substantial number of employment opportunities.

The automotive industry's expansion in Morocco continues unabated, with plans for the imminent opening of several new factories, totaling around 60, to surpass the current annual production capacity of 700,000 vehicles.

The sector aims to produce one million vehicles in Morocco by 2025 and two million by 2030, driven in part by the rising demand for electric vehicles. Currently, production stands at $35.9 billion, but the kingdom projects an increase in revenue to over $22 billion by 2030, fueled by the anticipated surge in production.

Furthermore, Morocco's strategy to establish a "Made in Morocco" label, synonymous with quality, could further bolster the country's industrial fabric, particularly with the anticipated orders for 100% Moroccan-made vehicles, such as the NamX hydrogen-powered car recently unveiled by the New Motors company.

The automotive industry's remarkable ascent in Morocco has positioned it as a pivotal economic powerhouse, propelling the nation's industrial growth and fostering a robust labor market. As this sector continues to expand and attract global investments, Morocco is poised to solidify its position as a leading automotive manufacturing hub in the region.
