Starmer condemns ‘deeply shocking’ antisemitic attack on ambulance service in London
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has strongly condemned what authorities are treating as an antisemitic attack targeting a volunteer ambulance service in north London.
The incident took place in the district of Golders Green, where four ambulances belonging to the Jewish emergency response organization Hatzalah were set on fire overnight.
London’s Metropolitan Police confirmed that the case is being investigated as a hate crime. Emergency services were alerted in the early hours, and firefighters quickly brought the blaze under control. No injuries were reported, although nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution.
In a public statement, Starmer described the attack as “deeply shocking” and expressed solidarity with the Jewish community. He emphasized that antisemitism has no place in British society and called for unity against hatred.
Investigators are currently reviewing surveillance footage and videos circulating online. Authorities believe up to three suspects may be involved, though no arrests have been confirmed at this stage.
The attack has drawn widespread condemnation from political and religious leaders. Health Secretary Wes Streeting labeled the incident “disgusting” and urged the public to stand together against antisemitism.
Meanwhile, the UK’s Chief Rabbi, Ephraim Mirvis, described the act as “particularly abhorrent,” highlighting that the targeted organization provides lifesaving assistance to people of all backgrounds.
The incident comes amid growing concern over a rise in antisemitic acts in several parts of the world, prompting renewed calls for vigilance and community solidarity.
