SKF expands footprint with new magnetic bearing factory in Morocco
Swedish bearing and seal manufacturing company SKF has inaugurated a new factory in the northern Moroccan city of Tangier, marking a significant expansion in its global operations. This facility is designed to meet the rising demand for magnetic bearings and components for high-speed electronic motors.
Initially employing 60 individuals, the Tangier factory will focus on producing modular and scalable products that can be seamlessly integrated into a variety of applications. SKF, headquartered in Gothenburg, aims to bolster its position as a global leader in this sector.
The company highlights the efficiency of its magnetic solutions, which operate at high speeds with minimal friction and maintenance. These components are essential for high-speed machinery, including compressors, turbines, and motors.
Thomas Fröst, President of Independent and Emerging Business at SKF, expressed enthusiasm about the economic and competitive advantages the new facility will provide. He emphasized that the factory aligns with SKF's commitment to sustainability and innovation through initiatives such as decarbonization, electrification, and system intelligence.
Fröst noted, “By enhancing our supply chain, we can reduce lead times, improve customer delivery performance, and offer competitive solutions.” This strategic move not only positions SKF as a key partner in the sustainability transformation but also reinforces its operational capabilities in a competitive marketplace.
Founded in 1907, SKF is the largest bearing manufacturer in the world, employing approximately 38,000 people across 108 manufacturing units and maintaining 17,000 distributor locations in 130 countries.
