Shooting at Dallas immigration detention center leaves one dead and two injured

A deadly shooting at a federal immigration detention center in Dallas, Texas, has claimed the life of one person and left two others seriously injured. Authorities have confirmed that the suspected gunman, who later died by suicide, acted alone and took a sniper-style position before opening fire.

The Dallas police department reported that the attacker fired at the facility from a nearby rooftop, striking three individuals. Emergency responders transported the injured to a local hospital, where their conditions are being closely monitored. The victim who died was pronounced dead at the scene, while the gunman succumbed to a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

US Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem addressed the incident on X, stating, “Details remain unclear, but we can confirm there were fatalities and injuries.” She added that the motive for the attack remains under investigation.

Preliminary findings indicate that the shooter, identified as a white man armed with a rifle, acted independently. Local media, including Fox4, reported that the assailant took his own life as police arrived at the scene. Todd Lyons, acting director of the federal immigration police, told CNN that the attack appeared to be the work of a lone sniper and posed no broader threat.

The incident has reignited concerns about security at US immigration facilities, which are often focal points in the nation’s contentious political and social debates. Investigations are ongoing as officials work to uncover further details.
