Ryanair Spreads Its Wings: Inaugurating Domestic Flights Between Ouarzazate and Tangier
In a significant move for Morocco's aviation landscape, Ryanair, the renowned low-cost carrier, has launched its first domestic flight connecting the enchanting city of Ouarzazate with the historic coastal gem, Tangier. This ambitious initiative, part of the airline's expansion plan, aims to transform air travel within the North African kingdom.
The inaugural flight, which landed at the Ouarzazate airport today, had a capacity of 180 passengers, signaling a new era of connectivity between these two captivating destinations. Ismail Aghouzaf, the airport's esteemed director, highlighted the importance of this first flight, noting its potential to strengthen Ouarzazate's air links and boost the region's growing tourism industry.
Aghouzaf's comments were backed by impressive statistics: the Ouarzazate airport welcomed over 10,000 passengers in March alone, marking a remarkable 12% increase compared to the same period in 2023. This upward trend reflects the growing popularity of this UNESCO World Heritage Site, known for its stunning desert landscapes and rich cultural heritage.
Ryanair's entry into Morocco's domestic airspace is the result of months of meticulous planning and negotiations. In December 2023, the airline secured approval to operate domestic flights within the kingdom, laying the groundwork for an ambitious expansion strategy. With a clear roadmap in place, Ryanair plans to launch 11 domestic routes connecting nine Moroccan destinations, including Agadir, Errachidia, Essaouira, Fez, Marrakech, Ouarzazate, Oujda, Tangier, and Tetouan.
This strategic move by Ryanair aligns with Morocco's broader vision of strengthening both local and international tourism. In 2023, the North African nation welcomed an impressive 14.5 million visitors and aims to attract 17 million tourists by 2026, with a long-term goal of reaching 26 million by 2030.
As Ryanair extends its reach across Morocco's diverse landscapes, travelers can expect a new era of affordable and accessible air travel, connecting the kingdom's most attractive destinations. With its trademark low-cost fares and commitment to exceptional service, Ryanair is poised to reshape the way Moroccans and international visitors explore the country's rich tapestry of cultures, landscapes, and experiences.
