Russia rejects claims of cyber cooperation with Iran amid rising tensions
Russia has dismissed allegations that its hackers are collaborating with those from Iran to carry out cyberattacks, rejecting claims attributed to Ukrainian intelligence.
Speaking on behalf of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova described the accusations as unfounded and part of a broader narrative linked to ongoing geopolitical tensions with Ukraine.
The dispute highlights the growing role of cybersecurity in modern conflicts, where digital operations have become a key dimension of international rivalry. Governments increasingly accuse one another of conducting or supporting cyber activities targeting infrastructure, institutions, and information systems.
While Russia denies any joint cyber operations with Iran, it has also accused Ukraine of engaging in its own cyber campaigns. Such mutual accusations are common in today’s geopolitical landscape, where attribution in cyberspace is often complex and contested.
Experts note that cyber warfare has become an integral part of broader strategic competition, with states investing heavily in both defensive and offensive capabilities. These developments raise concerns about the potential escalation of conflicts beyond traditional military domains.
As tensions persist, the international community continues to call for clearer norms and cooperation in cyberspace to reduce risks and prevent further destabilization.
