Royal Jordanian to launch direct Amman-Casablanca flights this October

Royal Jordanian Airlines is set to introduce direct flights between Amman and Casablanca starting mid-October, marking a significant milestone in strengthening ties between Jordan and Morocco. The new route was announced by Jordanian Ambassador to Morocco, Jumana Ghunaimat, who highlighted its importance for fostering cooperation in travel, tourism, and trade.

A strategic air bridge between East and West

The new Amman-Casablanca connection will reduce travel time to approximately five hours, creating an “air bridge” that links the Arab East and West. Ambassador Ghunaimat described the route as a “qualitative addition,” emphasizing its role in promoting cultural, economic, and educational exchanges between the two nations.

“This direct flight represents a major step in consolidating bilateral relations,” Ghunaimat said, underlining the two kingdoms’ shared commitment to enhancing cooperation across investment, tourism, and other fields.

Royal Jordanian’s growing network

Established in 1963 as Jordan’s national carrier, Royal Jordanian operates a fleet of 26 aircraft serving 45 destinations globally from its hub at Queen Alia International Airport. As a member of the oneworld alliance, the airline connects passengers to over 1,100 airports across 180 territories worldwide through its partnerships.

The Amman-Casablanca route will support Morocco’s strategy to expand its global air connectivity, complementing the country’s broader “Airports 2030” development framework aimed at modernizing infrastructure and boosting travel capacity.

Visa exemption initiative in progress

This announcement follows earlier efforts by the Jordanian government to exempt Moroccan citizens from visa requirements, a proposal designed to facilitate travel and strengthen bilateral relations. The initiative is expected to enhance the impact of the new air route, encouraging tourism and commercial exchange between the two countries.

The visa exemption request, made in February, demonstrates Jordan’s commitment to easing movement between the two nations and further deepening their historical ties.

A step forward in Arab unity

The direct route aligns with both kingdoms' broader goals of mutual openness and collaboration. By bridging the geographical gap, the initiative is expected to foster closer ties and create opportunities for shared growth in sectors such as investment, culture, and education.
