Pope Leo XIV expected to visit Argentina in November, president Milei says

Argentine President Javier Milei announced that Pope Leo XIV is “very likely” to visit Argentina in November as part of a broader tour across South America.

Speaking on local radio station Radio Mitre, Milei said preparations are underway for what could become one of the most significant diplomatic and religious events in the country this year. The Vatican has not yet released a detailed official schedule, but regional media reports indicate that the Pope’s tour is expected to include Argentina, Uruguay and Peru.

If confirmed, the visit would mark an important moment for relations between the Vatican and Argentina, a country with deep Catholic traditions and strong historical ties to the Church. Millions of Argentine Catholics are expected to follow the visit closely, especially amid ongoing economic and political challenges facing the nation.

According to reports, the Pope’s Latin American tour aims to strengthen dialogue with local communities, religious institutions and political leaders while addressing issues such as poverty, social justice, migration and technological change.

The possible trip comes shortly after Pope Leo XIV presented his first encyclical, focused on the growing influence of artificial intelligence and its impact on humanity. The document has generated international debate about ethics, technology and the future of human society.

Argentina has long played a central role in the Catholic world, and a papal visit is often viewed as both a spiritual and political event. Security preparations and logistical planning are expected to intensify in the coming months if the Vatican officially confirms the trip.

Uruguay and Peru are also reportedly included in the Pope’s planned South American itinerary, reflecting the Vatican’s continued focus on Latin America, home to one of the world’s largest Catholic populations.
