Norsk Hydro to close two US plants, cutting around 350 jobs

Norsk Hydro, the Norwegian aluminium producer, has announced plans to shut down two of its extrusion plants in the United States next year, resulting in the loss of approximately 350 jobs.

The company said the affected facilities are located in City of Industry, California, and Delhi, Louisiana. It explained that both sites are operating below optimal capacity and would require significant investment to meet required operational standards.

According to the company, the decision is part of a broader effort to streamline operations and improve efficiency across its international industrial footprint. Weak demand conditions and high maintenance costs were also cited among the challenges facing the plants.

Norsk Hydro emphasized that the closure decision was taken after evaluating long-term viability and competitiveness in the US market. The company added that it will work to support affected employees during the transition process.

The move reflects ongoing restructuring pressures within the global aluminium sector, where producers are increasingly focusing on consolidating production and optimizing costs amid fluctuating industrial demand.
